Everyone flocks to major platforms when they want to coordinate some action with others. Neighbourhoods gets it - many communities require similar basic tools. The problem is that every group, whose style is unique, inherits the same cultural patterns from these platforms. Think of the weight they carry! Platforms’ metrics and business models determine the language for interacting with one another. They determine how we find and approach each other. They determine the ordering of feeds and visibility of posts, announcements, and other media.

Neighbourhoods is a framework for groupware that enables communities to design and select custom cultural patterns - all using p2p, “web3” software called Holochain. At the heart of each neighbourhood is the Social Sensemaker, a custom piece of software which implements and calculates a group’s specific metrics, reactions to media objects, and ways of recognizing each other.

This means groups can interact, and make sense of those interactions, on their own terms; Individuals get a more expressive symbolic language, and groups get to share focus on what they care about.
