South Korea Presidential Contender Promises to Push Crypto as Much as Trump

Trump’s pro-crypto administration in the US is inspiring other government officials across global countries to regulate and adopt the crypto industry. South Korea presidential candidate Hong Joon-pyo made a vow to push crypto in the country, similar to how Trump did in the US.
South Korean local media news outlet Naver News reported that Hong Joon-pyo made several promises today in his race to become the President of the country. Hong Joon-pyo contends for the President role from the People Power Party. He held a policy briefing earlier today and made pledges on the country’s economy, labor, science, and technology.
One of the major areas of focus that sets Hong Joob-pyo apart from other Presidential candidates is his approach towards crypto regulation. He promised he would eliminate regulations similar to how Donald Trump did in the US. In his words,
“In order to foster blockchain and virtual assets as a single industry, I will eliminate regulations as much as the Trump administration in the United States did. I will introduce blockchain technology to the public sector and administrative services, and foster virtual assets as a single industry.”
South Korea Hong Joon-pyo Pledges to Invest 50 Trillion Won in R&D
Apart from blockchain and crypto-related promises, Hong Joon-pyo also promised to allocate 50 trillion won to research and development in various technological fields. Some of the major focused areas include artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and superconductors to accelerate super-gap technology-led growth.
The previous South Korea president was removed from the position due to the controversial declaration of martial law in 2024. The next South Korean presidential election is around two months away from today. Neither the local parties have yet announced their nominated candidates.
